The plant will build 200,000 or more vehicles a year.
Both the VF 8 midsize SUV and 7-passenger VF 9 SUV will be assembled here.
VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker, is fast-tracking its plans to build and sell EVs in North America. They have struck a deal with North Carolina’s Commerce Department to erect a massive facility in the Triangle Area.
The 2,150-acre plant’s site is located in Moncure, in Chatham County, or about a 30-minute drive south from downtown Raleigh. When operations officially begin in 2027, the facility should employ at least 7,500 workers.
As reported by The News Observer, the Commerce Department noted that VinFast considered 28 other sites in 12 states before Moncure, NC. VinFast CEO Le Thi Thu Thuy mentioned that the deal came together quickly once the process was completed.
“After like three weeks of negotiations and hard work by both Vingroup and VinFast teams and the governor’s office, we have finally reached the stage today,” Thuy said.
VinFast expects that the plant will churn out at least 200,000 EVs annually. The first to roll off the line will be the 5-seater midsize VF 8 and 7-passenger VF 9 SUVs.
