EVs will be able to charge without a customer interation
Feature will be added to 2023 ID.4 EVs
Volkswagen has just launched Plug&Charge at Electrify America and Electrify Canada stations for the 2023 ID.4 EV. The tech makes charging an easier experience, at least when it comes to the transaction part.
Plug&Charge allows drivers to do just that. Plug the vehicle in, and the “handshake,” including the financial transaction, is done behind the scenes. The driver doesn’t have to initiate a charge through either the station or an app. As long as they have an account with the Electrify apps and enable the service.
Volkswagen will be enabling the service starting early this year. The ID.4 can charge at 140 kW on a DC charger with the smaller battery, and 170 kW with the 82 kWh long range pack. Both models should be able to charge from 10-80 percent in 30 minutes.
This should make it easier for owners to use their free charging package. Volkswagen Canada shoppers receive unlimited 30-minute charge sessions for four years with Electrify Canada. U.S. buyers get the same for three years.
