Volkswagen Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition celebrates two decades of their high performance, all-wheel-drive Golf.
The Anniversary Edition features aesthetic changes like gloss black 19-inch wheels, blue “R” badging, but no extra power like the 333.
The 20th Anniversary Edition is currently on sale, with prices starting at $50,995 for the manual transmission model and $52,395 for the 7-speed DSG version.
Volkswagen Canada is bringing the Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition to our shores to mark two decades of their high-performance, all-wheel-drive Golf that originated with the European launch of the R32 in 2002. Canada got its first R in 2012.
Built upon the latest generation Golf R, the 20th Anniversary Edition is powered by the appreciated EA888 evo4 TSI engine, producing a commendable 315 horsepower. The model showcases North America’s unique 6-speed manual transmission option, alongside a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic variant.
Limited to about 500 units, the Anniversary Edition differentiates itself with gloss black 19-inch Estoril wheels shod in 235/35 summer performance tires, a panoramic power sunroof, torque-vectoring 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, and best of all, the DCC adaptive damping system.
The Anniversary Edition extends its palette to Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl, and Pure White, with each colour having a restricted number of units. Trim details such as mirror caps, finished in Lapiz Blue for Pure White and Deep Black variants and gloss black for the Lapiz Blue, offer a subtle sign this isn’t a regular Golf R. Each model projects “20 R” onto the ground below via puddle lights, and blue “R” logos are strategically placed on the front and rear bumpers, front fenders, and the B-pillars, accentuating the 20th Anniversary badges.
Inside, the Anniversary Edition introduces genuine carbon fibre decor inserts, for the first time ever in a VW, on the dash panel and front door trim. This subtle nod to performance blends seamlessly with the sporty cabin, boasting an ergonomically designed “D” shaped steering wheel and high-bolster sport seats. Owners will appreciate the blue “R” logo on the steering wheel clasp and the key fob.
Available now, the Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition is priced at $50,995 for the manual transmission model, and $52,395 for the 7-speed DSG variant.
