VW Boss just joined Twitter and in his first Tweet, he trolls Musk.
The battle is for EV numbers and market share.
For the moment, VW is well behind Tesla but that may change.
Contrary to Elon Musk, we think that Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess probably has a team working for and with him when it comes to managing his Twitter account. For his first tweet of all time, he called out the richest person in the world and the reasons could be manifold.
On Wednesday the 20th, Diess tweeted: “Hello @Twitter! I’m here to make an impact with @VWGroup, especially on political issues,” Diess tweeted on Wednesday. “And, of course, to get some of your market shares, @elonmusk — after all, our ID.3 and e-Tron have won the first markets in Europe. Looking forward to productive discussions.”

The first reason he did so was to possibly remind Musk and the Twittersphere that, despite Tesla outselling VW 2-to-1 for EVs, Volkswagen is still the largest automaker in the world and that they are on the move. In 2020, Tesla sold 500,000 units while VW managed to deliver just over 231,000. VW’s production capacity being what it is, the gap could close quickly over the next year or two.
The other reason could to strategically awake Elon’s legions of fans and followers and possibly get a small percentage of them to follow the perpetrator. For the moment, as reported by CNN, Musk has not responded to Diess.
