Volkswagen details big safety changes to 2024 model lineup

  • More safety kit on all models

  • VW adding more luxury bits to more basic trims

Volkswagen has just announced its 2024 model year lineup changes. There are some big changes in store, including the addition of IQ. drive ADAS as standard on all automatic-transmission models.

IQ. Drive is VW’s name for its advanced driver assistance suite. The suite includes adaptive cruise with steering support, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, front assist, and Emergency Assist, which will bring a vehicle to a controlled stop if the driver is unresponsive. All but Emergency Assist will be standard on stick-shift vehicles.

The biggest changes for 2024 are to the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. We’ve already seen the extensively refreshed model that drops its VR6 for an all 2.0T lineup. VW has also gone with more luxurious interior trim choices for the model including more faux leather and soft-touch materials.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI hot tach gets power folding outside mirrors and some grades will get a new wheel design. VW is planning a new “GTI 380” trim for later in the year, but isn’t saying anything about it now. The Volkswagen Golf R gets the same power-fold mirrors and a new 19-inch wheel design.

2024 marks 40 years of the Volkswagen Jetta GLI and that brings with it a special edition that has mostly cosmetic changes. The standard Jetta has a new faux-leather steering wheel and leather gearshift on base spec, an auto-dimming inside mirror, and rain-sensing wipers.

The 2024 Volkswagen Taos compact crossover gets new interior contrast stitching. Base models get rain-sensing wipers, heated wheel, and light assist, with SE adding dual-zone climate control and a new Black package with black trim.

There are small updates for the Volkswagen Tiguan as well, with an auto-dimming mirror on S trim, rain-sensing wipers, and a faux-leather wheel. VW’s latest MIB3 infotainment system will be added, with wireless charging and wireless App-Connect.

Expect the 2024 Volkswagen models to hit dealers in the coming months.
