Motor changes mean 282 hp for single-motor big battery cars
Infotainment enhancements should improve usability
Volkswagen is updating the ID.4 EV for 2024, giving the electric hatch more power and more range. Plus certain models will get a larger and new infotainment system VW hopes will be more intuitive to use.
It’s the 82 kWh pack versions of the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 that get the changes. A new drive unit delivers 282 hp for rear-motor cars and 330 hp for AWD cars. That’s up significantly from 201 hp for current rear-motor cars and a good bump for AWD models from 295. Volkswagen wasn’t ready to announce new range figures for the pair, but VW says that both are “anticipated to deliver enhanced range.” The current models are good for 275 miles and 255 miles respectively.
Every 82 kWh car gets a new 12.9-inch audio screen instead of the 12.0-inch that continues in 62 kWh models. The new screen has backlit sliders for adjustments and “a new and more intuitive climate control interface.” VW has faced criticism for going too far without buttons on the initial ID.4 system, also used in some other models. The 82 kWh cars get a new shifter location and revised steering wheel.
Higher-spec ID.4 models add ventilated front seats and a new nine-speaker audio system. AWD models get 20-inch alloy wheels, with 21-inches on S Plus. Expect pricing for the revised Volkswagen EVs closer to the on-sale date, which is expected to be in early 2024.
