Volkswagen was offering for the first-time online pre-bookings for its new EV, the ID.3. In less than 24 hours, 10,000 registrations were made for the car.
Yesterday marked the launch of the pre-booking campaign for the all-new, highly awaited, Volkswagen ID.3, in Europe. For now, only a special edition was available for pre-order, the ID.3 1st.
This special launch edition is limited to 30,000 vehicles and Volkswagen announced today that in less than 24 hours they received 10,000 registrations for it. The demand was so strong at some point that their IT systems couldn’t handle the flood of customers trying to register on the site, VW added.
The Volkswagen ID.3 EV will come with three different battery sizes, 45 kWh, 58 kWh and 77 kWh, which will give it a range from 330 to 550 kilometres (WLTP). The ID.3 1st is only available with a 58 kWh battery and has a range of up to 420 kilometres (WLTP).
As for the pricing, the German manufacturer says the smallest battery version will start under €30,000 while the special edition will start at less than €40,000.
Production of the ID.3 1st is still planned for the end of 2019 and the first vehicles are supposed to be delivered in mid-2020.
Volkswagen stated earlier today that 200 pre-production ID.3s were successfully built at their Zwickau car plant. The factory is therefore still on schedule to build only e-cars by the end of 2020. By that time, the production capacity will be able to reach 330,000 vehicles a year.
The ID.3 is the first model of the new ID. family that will see the light of day on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB). Other family members will join it in the next couple of years, like the ID. CROZZ, ID. VIZZION or ID. ROOMZZ.
With 10,000 ID.3 1st gone, it means that 20,000 are still up for grab on the European market. To pre-book the vehicle, just head to http://www.volkswagen.com/id-prebooking to give a deposit of €1,000. But you might want to hurry up.
