Their website got so much traffic it crashed.
The ID.4 First Edition retailed for $43,995 US.
Base ID.4 Pro is priced from $39,995 US.
On Wednesday morning, at 11 am EST, Volkswagen revealed the all-new fully electric ID.4 SUV. Shortly after the unveiling and presentation, traffic on VW USA’s website got so big that it crashed. The frenzy involved the desire for more information and clearly, many wanted to be among the first to get their hands on an ID.4.
The base ID.4 Pro is equipped with a single 201-horsepower rear-mounted electric motor. The dual-motor powertrain, good for a system total of 302 horsepower, is a $3,680 option, and also includes a tow hitch and a heated windshield.
The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 First Edition is the main reason why the automaker apologized on social media for its website being down. Reservations for the ID.4 opened up with the reveal event – a $100 reservation fee got your name on the list to receive your electric SUV early next year.
It is unknown how many orders were placed or how many potential customers attempted to make a reservation, according to caradvice.com.au, but the number must be fairly significant. Those who missed out on the First Edition will have to wait until mid-2021 to get their ID.4.
