Would be a Land Rover Defender-styled electric SUV.
Apparently, it would be affordable too.
Supposedly, this is VW Boss Herbert Diess’ pet project.
Volkswagen is exploring its past as a source of inspiration for a number of possible future electric vehicles. We all know the Bus will return as the ID. Buzz (ID.7) and early last year, the ID. Buggy came to life. Sadly, the Buggy might be out but rumour has it might return as a cross between it and a Land Rover Defender referred to as the Ruggdzz.
Although rumours of an off-road capable electric Volkswagen date back to 2016, it seems as though the RUV (rugged utility vehicle) is on track. Carscoops.com reports that this boxy off-road EV SUV is VW Boss Herbert Diess’ pet project.
Nothing else is known about the ID. Ruggdzz other than it will be affordable and aimed at a younger crowd. More than likely, it will be built on VW’s MEB EV platform and feature two electric motors in an AWD configuration.
As all of this stems from the rumour mill, the Ruggedzz may end up in another VW sub-brand like Skoda. But all is not lost however as the Junglezz, a concept inspired by the Type 181 (aka Volkswagen Thing) will apparently break cover next year.
