Volkswagen Introduces The Transporter T6.1 Sportline

Minivan and EV enthusiasts are looking forward to the Volkswagen ID.7 but in the meantime, there’s the cool Transporter T6.1 Sportline


  • This is the current generation of the lovingly referred-to-as Volkswagen Bus.

  • The Sportline is a visual upgrade package for both the Combi and the panel van.


The Volkswagen Transporter T6 is the 6th generation of what started out as the T2, or Type 2. In the event you were curious, the Type 1 is the Beetle. For 2021, Volkswagen is introducing a spruced-up sporty version of the T6 in the Sportline.

Sadly, the Transporter T4 was the last to be offered new in North America. Elsewhere in the world, the T5 and T6 have continued to be extremely popular with families, fleets, outdoor types, and the likes. This latest version, the T6.1 Sportline brings a new dimension to the Transporter.

The package is all visual and it’s quite attractive. The most obvious change is the ride height. The Sportline rides some 30mm lower than other Transporters and rolls on select 18-inch wheels. The van features a red contrast grille strip and a new bumper, a unique rear spoiler, and a collection of specific colour including Indium Grey, Fortana Red, Ravenna Blue and Copper Bronze.

The cabin is fitted with Nappa leather and suede trim. This is on top of the Highline trim’s included heated front seats, digital cockpit, and an available Discover Media Pro Navigation system with a 9.2-inch colour touchscreen for Black Edition models.

Obviously, the Transporter T6.1 Sportline is not offered in North America. Those who want a Volkswagen Van will have to wait for the Buzz which is expected for 2023.
