Volkswagen Jetta GLI Retains 6-Speed Manual Transmission for 2025 Refresh

Updated styling and more features keep the Volkswagen Jetta competitive in the compact sedan segment.

  • Refreshed 2025 Jetta features updated exterior styling, new interior design, and standard 8-inch infotainment display.

  • GLI model retains six-speed manual transmission option alongside seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

  • New Jetta lineup offers additional standard features across all trims.

The Volkswagen Jetta and its sportier GLI variant get not insignificant updates for the 2025 model year, bringing sharper styling and new features to the compact sedan segment. As Volkswagen’s best-selling car in North America since its introduction in 1980, the Jetta continues to evolve while maintaining its core attributes of style, quality, safety, and value.

Exterior updates for 2025 include revised front and rear fascias, modernizing the Jetta’s appearance. The front-end features new grille designs and LED headlights, with an available light bar on Comfortline with the Sport package models and above. At the rear, a redesigned trunk lid incorporates a standard light bar connecting the taillights. New wheel options, including 17-inch aluminum alloys for the Comfortline models and 18-inch alloys for Highline and GLI trims, further enhance the Jetta’s visual appeal. Two new exterior colors, Monterey Blue Pearl and Alpine Gray, join the palette for 2025.

Inside, the Jetta receives a comprehensive interior update. A new dashboard design incorporates a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display as standard across all models. The centre stack now features Climatronic Touch automatic climate control as standard equipment.

Seating materials and interior color schemes have been refreshed across the Jetta lineup. The Trendline model offers Rhombus cloth seats in Titan Black or Storm Grey. Comfortline trims introduce new perforated, two-tone Microcloud leatherette seating surfaces in Grey/Titan Black or Seawall Blue/Storm Grey combinations. Highline models boast perforated Vienna leather seats in Grey/Titan Black or a new Brown/Titan Black option. The GLI stands out with unique perforated Vienna leather seats in Grey/Red Crust/Titan Black with red contrast stitching.

Under the hood, the standard Jetta retains its 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 158 horsepower. This engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, balancing performance with fuel efficiency. The Jetta GLI continues to offer a more potent 2.0L turbocharged engine, generating 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Notably, the GLI preserves the option of a six-speed manual transmission, gone from the 2025 GTI and Golf R, alongside the available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Notice that the manual transmission has been dropped from the regular Jetta…
