Supply chain issues mean all 2021 and 2022 cars already sold
Demand may ease when U.S. plant opens later this year
Volkswagen‘s ID.4 is having some serious supply chain issues and production delays. So much so that they’ve stopped taking orders for the electric crossover in Canada until the company can catch up.
News of the order pause was posted by Volkswagen Canada to a Facebook Group it runs called ID. Insider.
“There’s a lot of excitement for the ID.4. So much so that all 2021 and 2022 models in Canada have already been sold. However, due to global supply chain issues and production delays in some of our plants, we regret to announce that we are no longer taking orders on ID.4 models at this time,” read the statement. Volkswagen ID.4 production has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Some customers who had placed orders as early as possible on the ID.4 crossover are still waiting for their vehicles. That wait time has grown and is now still more than a year for many.
Production of the ID.4 is expected to increase later this year when Volkswagen’s TN plant begins building the electric cars. That should help improve availability, but likely not until next year.
Volkswagen has a list for potential buyers who want to be among the first to know when 2023 ID.4 pre-orders are available for Canada.
