German adventure driver took an ID.4 cross-country with the fewest charge stops
ID.4 averaged 400 km between charge sessions
Two Germans in a VW ID.4 have just set a record for driving across Canada with the fewest charge stops in an EV. Rainer Zietlow and his cameraman Elric Popp set off from St. John’s a week ago and arrived in Victoria BC yesterday to complete the trip.
The two took drove their Volkswagen ID.4 EV a total of 7,133 km and passed through every province except Prince Edward Island. With just 18 charging stops needed, the trip set a Guinness World Record for driving across Canada with the fewest charging stops.
Volkswagen said the trip showed that the ID.4 offered the comfort, range, and space required to tackle our country’s vast distances. It also showed that Canada’s charging network is improving, offering enough fast charging to make the trip possible, and possible to complete in a reasonable time.

To follow up on his record drive, Zietlow will be crossing the country once again. But this time he won’t be chasing his own record. Instead, Zietlow will be visiting all 145 Volkswagen dealers in Canada to share details of his trip and show off the record.
Production of the ID.4 is now underway at VW’s TN plant, which should help improve availability. The hot-selling EV has been tough to find at Canadian showrooms, as it was originally limited by European production capacity. Next year, VW will add the ID.7 sedan and ID. Buzz to its growing EV lineup.
