There’s a Volkswagen Transporter T5 minivan running around Europe as you read this with a six-speed manual gearbox and a 997 Porsche 911 Turbo engine powering its rear wheels.
Better yet, if you have roughly $300,000 and figure out how to import the vehicle to Canada, this spectacular minivan can be yours. You can even order it with all-wheel drive. We don’t think there’s a better vehicle out there right now. Not kidding.
The 3.6-liter flat-six engine develops 480 horsepower and sits over the rear axle. The company that builds the 911-powered VW van, Berlin-based TH Automobile, says you can boost horsepower to over 800 hp if you want. The model pictured here is fitted with two 911 GT2 turbos which boosts power to 580 hp.
Inside, you get three rows of seats along with perhaps this Volkswagen Transporter T5’s coolest feature: a Porsche 911 Turbo steering wheel taken from a 997. Now all that’s left to do is convince your significant other that 200k and a van imported from Europe is the right way to go for your next vehicle purchase.
