Drawing inspiration from the iconic GTI badge, Volkswagen’s ID. GTI Concept brings back cherished traits that aficionados recognize. The hallmark red grille surround, flared wheelarches, and alloy wheels pay homage to GTI’s legacy while embracing an electric-powered future.
Under the skilled direction of Andreas Mindt, the head of design, the ID. GTI Concept has taken shape based on the ID.2. Noteworthy design elements include an eye-catching LED daytime and matrix headlights, a sporty front bumper, and sleek black finishes for the front splitter, two-part rear diffuser, and roof spoiler.
Inside, the ID. GTI Concept blends modernity with usability. Although digital sketches offer glimpses of the interior, a 12.9-inch touchscreen and climate control block, which are expected to mirror production specifications, hint at an advanced interior layout. Illuminated air conditioning buttons and a traditional thumbwheel for volume control echo lessons learned from the ID.4 and ICE MK8 Golfs.
The ID. GTI Concept introduces a range of features to cater to modern needs. Wireless charging pads with magnetic locking, multiple USB-Cs, and a 10.9-inch digital cockpit in front of the driver underscore the vehicle’s user-centric approach. An innovative HUD incorporates augmented reality to display vital information such as lap times and a Nurburgring map.
Volkswagen’s vision for the ID. GTI Concept extends beyond aesthetics to driving dynamics. Equipped with a front-wheel-drive configuration and an electronic, front locking differential, this concept promises a dynamic driving experience. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager empowers drivers to customize drive settings, sound experiences, and simulated shift points, further enhancing the versatile aspect of GTI.
Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainability and sportiness is articulated by the ID. GTI Concept. CEO Thomas Schäfer affirms that this concept transports the GTI nameplate DNA into the electric era, maintaining its sporty, progressive essence while being connected, emotive, and eco-conscious. The ID. GTI Concept stands as an embodiment of VW’s ongoing electric offensive, promising an electric Volkswagen sports car suited for everyday driving. Naturally, the official launch of production version is yet to be determined, much like pricing and availability.
