Volvo Adds Ruggedness to EX30 with Cross Country Trim

  • All-wheel drive is standard.

  • The trim is expected later this year in Canada.

This one was was expected, following spy photos taken over the last few months, but as of today, Volvo is now counting on a new variant of its urban crossover, the EX30 Cross Country.

The Swedish division has a way with the adventurous fashion that inspires several “tougher” versions to offer an edition “a little more” capable of coping when road conditions worsen.

The first thing you notice is the darkened panel in front, which is even decorated with a topographical relief of the Kebnekaise Mountain range in northern Sweden. According to Volvo, this is an inspiring location for the brand’s designers. The Volvo EX30 Cross Country also gets skid plates at both ends, as well as wider fender flares. Finally, the inscription “Cross Country” is tattooed on the rear and on the C-pillars on the sides of this friendly vehicle, which is like a compact car in terms of dimensions.

Unsurprisingly, the EX30 Cross Country leaves the factory with a pair of engines, giving it all-wheel drive. What’s more, this urban SUV also benefits from a suspension lift.

Inside, this slightly more robust version retains the attributes of the regular EX30, with doors equipped with wide openings for storage, since the speakers have been relocated to the dashboard. The center console has also been maximized, with retractable storage for two coffee cups, another concealed stowage area between the front passengers, not to mention the glove compartment installed under the dashboard’s center screen. As for this other storage space for second-row passengers, it slides rearward from the center console and can even be washed if required.

Integrated Google technology is also standard, as in all the brand’s other vehicles, with all the applications for which it is renowned. It’s also possible for the user to preheat the cabin via the brand’s app.

And, as if that weren’t enough, Volvo is also launching the Cross Country Experience, a program of privileges reserved for owners of the model. Think of discounts on a range of accessories as shown in the official model photos (mudguards, roof basket, crossbars, etc.).

Volvo Canada has confirmed the arrival of this more adventurous variant of the electric crossover later this year, but we don’t yet know the exact date.
