Wait List Opens as Range Rover Electric Starts Testing

Home on the electric Range

  • RR Electric now testing on and off road

  • Expect V8-level performance

If you want an electric Range Rover, the wait has just gotten a bit shorter. The automaker has opened the wait list for its first EV, and the model has started the prototype testing phase.

JLR says it will be filing more patents for the Range Rover Electric than any Range Rover it has ever made, showcasing how much of an advancement the vehicle is. But it will still need to meet the company’s durability testing including the ability to ford 850 mm of water.

The RRE will be built on a new flexible architecture that will allow it to be built alongside gas and PHEV Rave Rover models. It will have an 800V electric architecture to help support the fastest charging speeds.

According to the company, it will deliver performance comparable to the Range Rover V8. It will also be the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever thanks to its new active road noise cancellation system.

Beyond deep water, the RR Electric will be tested at -40C in Sweden and +50C in Dubai. It will need to endure off-road tests that standard Rovers must pass, with new tests to ensure the electric drive system and battery are up to the task as well.

Of course that’s not a lot of information for anyone looking to get on the wait list. But since a deposit isn’t required yet, there’s not much to lose either. Expect a full reveal sometime later next year.
