Walmart Is Closing Its Tire, Lube, and Express Car Repair shops in Canada

The move shouldn't lead to significant job loss

  • Walmart’s 106 Tire, Lube, and Express stores closing across Canada

  • Mr.Lube partnerships will continue in some stores

Walmart is moving away from automotive, or at least automotive maintenance and repairs. The company announced the closing of 106 Tire, Lube, and Express stores across Canada today.

The company says the move will affect 550 employees. Some Walmart stores will continue to offer car maintenance services through partnerships with Mr.Lube.

The good news here is that Walmart says most of the employees affected by the decision will be retained.

The move comes as Walmart is looking to accelerate online growth and focus on its core business including food, consumables, health, and general merchandise, corporate affairs director Adam Grachnik said in an email sent to the Canadian Press.
