No powertools, just plenty of wooden wands and patience
Creator also makes motorcycles, other impressive models
Covid lockdowns have given people some extra time to do things they love instead of things that they have to do, and this Toyota 4Runner made of Popsicle sticks is one of the coolest projects we’ve seen so far. Even better, if you want to give it a go yourself, you won’t need any power tools to help out.
It’s like the old fashioned version of 3D printing, and this video shows you, step by step, how to turn wooden tongue depressors (craft sticks) into a car. Here’s a hint, it’s going to involve glue and knives.
After sticking together a stack of sticks, the creator sketches out their off-roader and hits it with a coping saw.
Then a variety of utility knives and chisels are used to smooth out the shape into something recognizable. Rinse and repeat for the doors, and they drop into place. At the end of the project, after what’s probably a lot more work and effort than it looks like, the creator has a model 4Runner that looks startlingly close to the real thing, and can even roll on its own four wooden wheels.
It’s like a plastic model, but a lot more personalised to the builder. And probably a whole lot more work. So watch, stare, and enjoy someone else’s hours of hard work.
