Waymo One launches 24/7 autonomous rides for all Los Angeles residents, covering nearly 207 square kilometres.
The service expansion comes before Waymo’s presence at the Los Angeles Auto Show as its Official Ride-Hail Partner.
Waymo partners with local groups to improve community impact and promote safe, accessible transportation.
Waymo One, the autonomous ride-hailing service, is now open to the public in Los Angeles, offering 24/7 access across the city, including Santa Monica, Hollywood Boulevard, and USC. This rollout comes just ahead of the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, where Waymo will serve as the Official Ride-Hail Partner.
Since launching its commercial operations in Los Angeles earlier this year, Waymo has drawn nearly 300,000 people to its waitlist. Over time, those early adopters have completed hundreds of thousands of rides, with users rating their experiences at an average of 4.7 out of 5 stars. According to a recent survey, 98% of Los Angeles riders expressed satisfaction with the service, and 96% found it useful.
“Now is an exciting time to welcome everyone in Los Angeles along for the ride,” said Tekedra Mawakana, Waymo’s co-CEO. She emphasized the service’s rapid maturation and the enthusiasm shown by riders who have embraced autonomous driving.
The service now covers nearly 207 square kilometres of Los Angeles County, with plans to extend to additional areas. This expansion strategy mirrors Waymo’s previous rollouts in cities like San Francisco and Phoenix, where gradual scaling has been successful.
Waymo’s presence will be notable at the Los Angeles Auto Show from November 22 to December 1, where attendees can learn more about autonomous technology and ride with Waymo. The company continues to promote the advantages of autonomous driving, from increased productivity during commutes to greater safety and convenience.
Those interested in trying Waymo One in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Phoenix can download the app to begin their fully autonomous journeys.
