Trademark filing for “Peak Edition” for the US was done on March 25th.
“Peak Edition” likely refers to the ID. R race car, a Pikes Peak Hill Climb record holder.
The ID. R is a fully electric race car. Volkswagen is about to launch its ID. family of EVs.
Volkswagen is bracing the world for its upcoming onslaught of electric vehicles. We’ve seen, read and written tonnes about VW’s ID. family of EVs and this bit of news tells us that there’s still loads to talk about. Volkswagen has just recently filed to trademark “Peak Edition” for an as-of-yet undisclosed product but we think we’ve figured it out.
Well, to be quite honest, it wasn’t that difficult a task. The Volkswagen ID. R race, which currently holds records at the Nürburgring and Goodwood Festival of Speed, also happens to be the titleholder of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb fastest climb at 7 minutes and 57.148 seconds. The record was set in 2018 and still stands today.
The link between the ID. R, the Pikes Peak record and the “Peak Edition” moniker leads us to believe that what the filing, which was discovered by the VWvortex, is either a trim for an upcoming ID. vehicle or perhaps for a trendy launch edition.
Already, we know that “GTX” will return as a trim for higher-performance variants of ID. vehicles with AWD. As well, Volkswagen’s R division is also working on high-performance iterations of upcoming ID. cars such as the ID.3. This then probably leaves “Peak Edition” for a limited run of initial launch edition models of the ID.4 SUV, the first ID. vehicle to be introduced in North America.
