The latest-generation C8 Chevrolet Corvette’s story has only begun. Before long, GM should be introducing at least three versions of the Corvette, all of which are expected to take the car’s performance to the next level. These spied C8 test mules could be the expected hybrid version.
Only yesterday we reported on GM and Chevrolet abandoning the idea of branding the hybrid C8 Corvette Manta Ray and instead settling on E-Ray. The two black-cladded and camouflaged Corvettes seen in this video are likely “E-Ray” hybrids is mostly because they are expected to sport a wider body as well as be powered by the Stingray’s 6.2-litre V8. The latter’s exhaust exists squared-off exhaust tips which the test mules also have.
The widebody is probably hiding the expected AWD system. This will make the C8 the first-ever Corvette to not only have a mid-engine configuration but to send power to all four wheels.
As reported by Carbuzz, these test cars are unlikely to be the hotly-anticipated Z06 as prototype images that are circulating on the internet show centrally-mounted tailpipes.
The Chevrolet Corvette “E-Ray” should be ready for the road sometime in 2023 for the 2024 model year.
