Almost 30 years ago to the day, Mazda introduced to the world what was to become the most popular sporty car of all time: The 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Arguably the most beloved drop-top in the history of the automobile, the Mazda MX-5 comes full circle to celebrate its 30th anniversary at the Chicago Auto Show. Only 3,000 of this special and limited-edition MX-5 will be built, of which 500 are earmarked for the US.
Spotting these in the wild will be easy, much like the M-Edition 1st generation cars or the 10th anniversary model which were all offered in unique colours, the 30th will be draped in a Racing Orange paint hue and roll on gorgeous gunmetal 17-inch 10-spoke Rays ZE40 forged aluminum wheels.
The new 2019 30th anniversary Mazda MX-5 is based on the GT trim with the soft top or is RF guise which brings with it a maximum of equipment and features. The orange outer shell carries forth on the inside with orange interior louvers and orange piping on the heated alcantara RECARO sports seats.
The good stuff is that the car will boast the newly refined and uprated 2.0-litre 4-cylinder which now produces 181-horsepower and 151lb.-ft. of torque. The 6-speed manual or optional automatic are available as is everything else that makes the Miata one of the greatest driving cars of all time.
We quickly reached out to Mazda Canada to find out how many (if any) will be allotted to Canada. We’ll update the story when we find out.
