What does one do with one of the most powerful compact SUVs currently available on the market today? Why, take it to the Green Hell, aka the Nürburgring Nordschleife and set a new lap record, obviously!
The high-powered SUV in question is a new 2019 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, which we think is completely mad, and we thank Mercedes-AMG for it. This special compact utility features the brand’s handcrafted AMG biturbo 4.0-litre V8 capable of producing 503-horsepower and a whopping 516 lb.-ft. of torque. With a standard AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, this little monster can hit 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds.
It easy to understand how the GLC 63 S managed to lap the world famous track in only 7 minutes 49.369 seconds. The previous record holder is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which set a time of 7 minutes and 51.7 seconds last year. With less than 2.5 seconds separating the two, we’re willing to bet Alfa will give it another try after they update the truck.
It’s crazy to think that the GLC’s time is on par with some impressive sports cars of our ear such as a Lotus Exige Cup 380, Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S and amazingly, a Porsche 997.1 911 GT3!
