2026 Toyota C-HR: It’s Back — and This Time, It’s Electric

With the unveiling of the 2026 C-HR, Toyota is doubling its electric lineup with the addition of a second fully electric model.

  • The Toyota C-HR returns as a 100% electric SUV

  • Toyota estimates a driving range of up to 500 kilometres

  • Maximum output reaches 338 horsepower

The Toyota C-HR has had several chapters in its history. Originally intended to be sold under the now-defunct Scion brand, it was ultimately released as a Toyota model. It was later pulled from the lineup after the 2022 model year to make way for the Corolla Cross, better suited to North American consumer needs. For 2026, Toyota is now bringing the C-HR back to Canada—this time as an all-electric vehicle.

Up to 500 Kilometres of Range

Toyota will offer two versions of the new C-HR for the Canadian market: SE and XSE AWD. The entry-level SE trim features a single electric motor mounted up front delivering 221 horsepower. Toyota estimates the range at close to 500 kilometres.

The XSE AWD version features a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with a combined output of 338 horsepower. This version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds and has an estimated range of around 465 kilometres. Both SE and XSE AWD trims are equipped with a 77-kWh battery.

The 2026 C-HR also comes with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and battery preconditioning functionality.

Built on the e-TNGA Platform

The 2026 Toyota C-HR uses Toyota’s e-TNGA electric architecture. Drivers can customize the driving feel and energy recovery by choosing from four levels of regenerative braking.

14-Inch Touchscreen and Practical Interior

Inside, the C-HR is equipped with a large 14-inch touchscreen that supports the infotainment system. Two wireless phone chargers are also available for front-seat occupants.

Despite its coupe-like SUV silhouette, Toyota promises practicality with 720 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats.

The C-HR measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width, 2,750 mm in wheelbase, and stands 1,595 mm tall.

It will be interesting to see how Toyota differentiates this new C-HR from the 2026 bZ, which was also revealed earlier this week.

Toyota expects to launch the 2026 C-HR sometime next year. Pricing details will be announced closer to its arrival in the Canadian market.
