2027 Chevrolet Bolt Returns with 410 km Range and NACS Port

GM's affordable EV returns with 150 kW fast charging and native Tesla Supercharger access. Canadian pricing to be announced.

  • 150 kW fast charging cuts charge time to 26 minutes (10-80%)

  • NACS port provides direct Tesla Supercharger network access

  • 410 km estimated range with 65 kWh LFP battery

UPDATE:

General Motors Canada has confirmed pricing and availability for the Canadian market:

  • Canadian Pricing: $43,470 ($39,999 MSRP) for the 2027 Bolt LT
  • Availability: First quarter of 2026
  • Production: Limited-run model for Canada
  • First in Canada: Native NACS charging port on a Chevrolet vehicle
  • Standard Equipment: Heated seats and heated steering wheel
  • Recognition: 2025 Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Award (Mainstream Electric Car category)

“The Chevrolet Bolt made history as Canada’s first widely accessible, long-range electric vehicle, earning a fiercely loyal following for its affordability, versatility, and everyday practicality,” said James Hodge, Chevrolet Canada’s brand director.

General Motors has confirmed the return of the Chevrolet Bolt nameplate for the 2027 model year. The reintroduced model addresses the primary limitation of its predecessor by increasing DC fast charging capability from 55 kW to 150 kW, reducing charge time from over an hour to 26 minutes for a 10-80% charge.

The Bolt was discontinued in December 2023 but returns following strong consumer demand and record sales performance prior to cancellation. Production begins in late 2025 at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, with dealer arrivals expected in early to mid-2026.

65 kWh LFP Battery and 410 km Range

The 2027 Bolt uses a 65 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, replacing the Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) system from previous models. GM estimates a driving range of 410 kilometres on a full charge, a modest increase from the 2023 Bolt EUV’s 397 km NRCan rating but below the discontinued 2023 Bolt EV hatchback’s 417 km range.

2027 Chevrolet Bolt Key Specifications:

  • Motor: 210 hp single motor, front-wheel drive
  • Battery: 65 kWh LFP
  • Range: 410 km (GM estimate)
  • Cargo: 453 litres (seats up), 1,614 litres (seats down)
  • Body Style: 5-door crossover

The vehicle continues on the BEV2 platform from the first generation, with updated Ultium battery components and the same 210 hp motor used in the Chevrolet Equinox EV‘s front-wheel-drive configuration. This engineering approach reduces development costs while incorporating modern battery and motor technology.

150 kW Fast Charging Capability

The 2027 Bolt’s 150 kW peak DC fast charging rate is a nearly threefold increase over the previous model’s 55 kW maximum. This upgrade enables 10-80% charging in 26 minutes at compatible stations, compared to over an hour for the earlier generation.

The vehicle is equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, providing direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network without adapters. A CCS adapter will be available for compatibility with existing non-Tesla charging infrastructure.

The slow charging speed of the first-generation Bolt limited its practicality for long-distance travel. By reducing the primary charging stop from over an hour to under 30 minutes, the 2027 model becomes more viable for highway trips and occasional long-distance use.

Crossover Design and Interior Updates

The 2027 model eliminates the standard hatchback variant, continuing exclusively with the larger crossover architecture from the former Bolt EUV. The exterior receives a refreshed front fascia with updated LED lighting and revised rear taillamps.

Interior updates include an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch central touchscreen, replacing the previous 8-inch and 10.2-inch displays. The gear selector has been relocated from the centre console to a steering column stalk, creating space for a wireless charging pad and additional storage compartments.

Physical controls for climate functions remain despite the larger screens. Cargo capacity is 453 litres behind the rear seats, expanding to 1,614 litres with the seats folded.

Super Cruise Availability and Trim Structure

GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system will be available on the 2027 Bolt, previously offered only on the top-tier Premier trim of the EUV. The system operates on compatible highways with Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering.

The vehicle will be available in LT, Launch Edition, and RS trims. US pricing starts at $28,995 USD for the LT trim, with the Launch Edition at $29,990 USD and the RS trim at approximately $32,000 USD. Canadian pricing has not been announced.

The infotainment system is expected to run an Android-based operating system and will not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, consistent with GM’s current software strategy.
