Jeep Introduces 2027 Wrangler JL-2A Honouring 1945 Willys CJ-2A

• Wrangler JL-2A is the 11th of 12 Twelve 4 Twelve drops, one left

• Package MSRP is $6,995, with orders opening next month

• First Wrangler cabin to pair Nappa Heritage Tan and Bison Brown

Jeep has introduced the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A, the 11th of 12 special editions in the brand’s yearlong Twelve 4 Twelve series. The model references the Willys CJ-2A, the first Jeep vehicle designed specifically for civilian use. Order books open next month at a package MSRP of $6,995.

Rubicon Platform Anchors the $6,995 Package

The JL-2A is built on the Wrangler Rubicon and carries Trail Rated certification. Standard content includes 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 All-Terrain tires, a front TrailCam with integrated washer, and the Convenience Group with remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a universal garage door opener.

At $6,995, the package asks more than the $4,000 Rewind in April or the $1,495 Rockslide in March. It follows the Wrangler Laredo in July and the Wrangler Smoky Mountain, which Jeep revealed to owners at the Smoky Mountain Invasion in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in August. One drop remains, expected October 12.

“The original CJ-2A represents a defining chapter in Jeep brand history. It is the moment the Jeep vehicle found a new purpose in communities across North America,” said Branden Coté, Jeep brand CEO.

Six Exterior Colours, Led by Gobi and ’41

Gobi returns for 2027 as the lead finish on the two-door, drawing on the CJ-2A’s original Harvest Tan. The four-door leads with ’41, the olive-drab tone Jeep introduced in 2020. Bright White, Joose and Sting Gray round out the palette, with Ghost following later.

Exclusive 17-inch retro wheels are painted Joose, a reference to the Sunset Red wheels fitted to the original. Front and rear tow hooks are finished in orange. Fender flares and the three-piece hardtop are body-colour, and the seven-slot grille carries Dark Metallic Grey accents.

First Wrangler Cabin to Pair Nappa Heritage Tan With Bison Brown

Bison Brown is not new to the Wrangler. It arrived two drops earlier on the July Laredo edition, wrapping that model’s Nappa leather seats. What the JL-2A does differently is pair it with Nappa Heritage Tan, which covers the seats here, alongside a Nappa PUR instrument-panel mid-bolster. Bison Brown moves to the door panels, lower instrument panel and centre console.

Desert Orange accent stitching runs through the cabin and ties visually to the Joose wheels. A satin chrome Willys-Overland shifter medallion and heritage-inspired HVAC vent graphics mark the edition, the latter carrying the seven-slot grille on one face and a Willys silhouette on the other.

The detail most likely to stop a buyer mid-walkaround sits on the rear swing gate. A plaque there recreates the artwork from the original CJ-2A dashboard data plate, farm and factory scenes included, a direct nod to the work the vehicle was built to do.

214,760 Built Between 1945 and 1949

Willys-Overland finished the first CJ-2A in Toledo, Ohio on July 17, 1945, adapting the military Willys MB for farms, ranches and industry. Just 1,824 were completed in that partial first year. Production reached 214,760 units by 1949, enough to make it the first mass-produced civilian four-wheel-drive vehicle, sold under the Universal Jeep name.

The civilian version added a tailgate, a rear power takeoff, larger headlights and the seven-slot grille that has defined the brand since. Postwar colour pairings gave the workhorse its personality, among them Harvest Tan with Sunset Red wheels and Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels. Both informed the 2027 edition’s palette.

Coté said the JL-2A “brings that story full circle, carrying forward an iconic silhouette shaped by 85 years of continuous 4×4 leadership.”
