At Mercedes-Benz, the path to electrification has been anything but a straight line. It’s been marked by shifting decisions, rebranding exercises, design overhauls, and changing priorities, less a coherent strategy than a work in progress. That’s not so much a criticism as an observation. The brand seems to have landed on an approach that works: familiar nameplates and, above all, a new design language that respects the marque’s image and storied past.
A range of over 600 km is anticipated.
The electric and combustion C-Class designs will share the same design.
The model is expected here in the first half of 2027.
We got a preview of all this with the electric GLC reveal last year, and now the new electric C-Class has made its world debut in Seoul. With this model, the German automaker is definitely turning the page on the EQ sub-brand and its bulbous bodywork. The newcomer is simply called the C-Class, slots into the regular lineup, and adopts a design that will align with the brand’s combustion-engine models.
The result is a sedan that looks considerably more conventional than the EQE and EQS that preceded it. The front end draws inspiration from Stuttgart’s great classics, notably the legendary W108 and W111 of the 1960s, with an imposing grille that deliberately references the brand’s heritage. Front and rear, 1,050 optional illuminated pixels enable custom light signatures, and a group of 162 illuminated stars is embedded in the panoramic roof.
We saw a similar approach with the electric GLC.
What really matters
Under the skin, the electric C-Class rides on the 800-volt MB.EA platform, the same architecture as the electric GLC, no surprise there. The launch version, the C400 4Matic, features two electric motors that produce a combined 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The front motor can automatically disconnect at a steady speed to preserve range. In contrast, the rear motor has its own two-speed transmission: first gear for brisk acceleration, second for highway cruising.
This approach delivers better energy efficiency, ultimately translating into more real-world range.
The vehicle’s claimed range, with a 94-kWh lithium-ion battery, is 762 km on the European WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure) cycle, which should translate to somewhere between 600 and 650 km under EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) testing, which governs ratings in North America.

On the performance side, the 0–100 km/h sprint is promised in 3.9 seconds. For fast charging, the C-Class supports up to 330 kW DC, adding roughly 225-250 km of range in 10 minutes, with a 10–80% charge taking just 22 minutes. A standard converter also allows the car to use 400-volt charging stations, and the onboard charger handles up to 9.6 kW AC.

Inside, the centerpiece screen now spans 39 inches and runs nearly the full width of the dashboard. Despite this digital dominance, Mercedes has kept physical buttons, round silver-rimmed air vents, and door-mounted seat adjustment controls. The electric architecture also frees up space under the hood, where a 101-litre frunk complements the 470-litre rear cargo area.
Worth noting: rear-wheel steering will be available as an option on this electric C-Class.
Final thoughts
That, in broad strokes, is what this new C-Class has in store. We’ll have more to share once we have the chance to spend time with the car. It’s slated to arrive on this side of the Atlantic in the first half of 2027, with a rear-wheel-drive version offering even more range to follow later in the year.
And as has often been the case throughout this model’s history, its most direct rival will be found at BMW, in the form of an i3 built on the new Neue Klasse platform.
