The XC60 gets Volvo’s latest infotainment
Mild facelift comes with a quieter cabin
Volvo is giving its best-seller some changes for the new model year. The Volvo XC60 crossover gets a new grille to let you know it’s different, but there are more substantial changes in the cabin with new larger screens and faster hardware running the vehicle’s interfaces.
The new grille gives the XC60 the look of the latest XC90. The more intricate array of diagonal lines that match up with the brand’s iconic logo isn’t a massive change, but that’s what we’ve come to expect from Volvo of late.
Volvo’s new infotainment system runs on a larger 11.2-inch portrait-mode screen. It has more pixels than the old screen, too, for sharper graphics. The screen is your portal to a new operating system with Google built-in. Volvo says its new Snapdragon Cockpit Platform is twice as fast as the old system with ten times faster graphics, making it more responsive and better for the user.
The new-look interface will be pushed out to more Volvo owners via over-the-air update. 35,000 cars sold in Canada, dating back as far as 2020, will get the option later this year.
Volvo has added new cabin materials along with a new face and screen. The new touches, including Quilted Nordico and Navy Herringbone Weave, are intended to make the XC60 feel more exclusive. Volvo has also added more sound insulation to help make the cabin quieter than before.
