2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid Wagon confirmed for North America

  • The wagon variant is expected before the end of the year.

  • With 604 hp, the 0-96 km/h only requires 3,8 seconds.

In the automotive world, some models thrill enthusiasts more than others. This is particularly true of the high-performance wagon versions distributed by German brands. The Audi RS 6 Avant and BMW M5 Touring are two great examples of this small group of hyper-desirable station wagons.

But let’s not forget Mercedes-Benz with its AMG subsidiary, which also offers some of these adrenaline-packed wagons, and the latest in the running, the Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid 2026, has just been confirmed by the automaker’s Canadian wing. Not surprising, given that Canadians are very enthusiastic when it comes to AMG variants.

In fact, this is the first high-performance hybrid wagon to cross the Atlantic Ocean, with the newcomer expected later in 2025, as a 2026 model.

Under the hood, those familiar with AMG-revised E-Classes may be disappointed to learn that the usual V8 is not there, but rather a 3.0-liter inline-6 delivering a whopping 577 hp (604 hp when Race Start mode is selected). Of course, this E53 is equipped with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor and a 28.6 kWh battery (21.2 kWh usable), which also gives it a short range in electric mode. Distance has not been disclosed, but we imagine this is not the primary mission of this performance-oriented version.

The electric motor alone develops 161 hp and is integrated into the nine-speed automatic gearbox, while the battery is housed under the trunk floor. For thrill-seekers, the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package further transforms this wagon into a high-performance sports car. Among other features, it includes the Race Start driving mode, a top speed increased to 280 km/h, active engine mounts, an electronically controlled AMG rear differential and an AMG steering wheel trimmed in Nappa leather and microfiber. All this is complemented by a high-performance composite braking system with 15.4-inch discs and red calipers, a reminder that this is an AMG.

In terms of styling, consumers will be able to personalize the car with no less than 12 body colors, not to mention the optional AMG Night, AMG Night Plus and AMG Carbon packages. The wagon leaves the factory with 20-inch wheels, although 21-inch wheels are also available.

The interior also features a range of materials: MB-Tex/microfiber or AMG Nappa leather upholstery, optional performance seats, AMG-customizable steering wheels, and a varied choice of decors.

We don’t know the price of this superwagon, but it’s a safe bet that it will be a little more expensive than the E53 Hybrid sedan, which already commands over $100,000 without any added options.
