BYD to Debut 1,500kW EV Charger and Next-Gen Blade Battery on March 5

Chinese automaker will introduce 1,500kW charging hardware, upgraded Blade batteries, and expanded infrastructure plans at upcoming technology conference.

  • BYD charger rated at 1,000V and 1,500A for 1,500kW peak output.

  • Second-generation Blade battery targets higher density and faster C-rate charging capability.

  • Company plans 4,000 flash stations and 15,000 partner sites in China in 2026.

Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to introduce a new generation of ultra-high-power EV charging and battery technologies at a March 5 technical conference, headlined by a 1,500kW “megawatt flash charge 2.0” system.

Photos circulating online ahead of the event show a T-shaped charging unit with an overhead cable structure. Smartly, the suspended design allows cables to extend to multiple vehicle charge-port positions while preventing them from dragging on the ground. Each dispenser appears to use sliding supports to reduce cable weight and improve handling.

Label details visible on the hardware indicate a maximum voltage of 1,000 volts and peak current of 1,500 amps. Combined, that equates to a theoretical output of 1,500 kilowatts per charging gun. If dual connectors share the cabinet’s capacity, total system output could exceed 2,000kW depending on configuration.

Technical estimates circulating in Chinese media suggest peak charging power around 1,360kW in real-world conditions. At that level, an EV could theoretically gain roughly two kilometres of driving range per second at peak charge rates, or approximately 400 kilometres in five minutes before tapering occurs as the battery fills. For context, BYD previously demonstrated a 1,000kW charger.

Actual performance will depend on vehicle compatibility. Passenger EVs must be engineered to accept sustained megawatt-class charging rates, requiring robust thermal management and high-C-rate battery chemistry. Even where maximum output is not fully utilized, higher power capability can improve charger throughput in dense urban environments.

BYD’s event will also introduce a second-generation Blade battery. Two variants are expected: one targeting approximately 210 Wh/kg energy density, or average rating, with up to 3C charging capability, and another optimized for ultra-fast charging at up to 8C, with an energy density of roughly 160 Wh/kg. Both are reported to deliver cycle life of up to 3,000 charge cycles, exceeding the first-generation Blade battery.

The March 5 conference will clarify deployment timelines, vehicle compatibility, and whether full 1,500kW output is available per connector or shared across multiple plugs.
