The brand’s global president confirmed that a new generation of the gas-powered XT6 SUV is coming.
Sources within GM have revealed that the CT5-V Blackwing sports sedan will also return for a second generation.
Both of these models could arrive during or for the 2028 model year.
While General Motors, and Cadillac in particular, have been quite aggressive in terms of their electric lineup over the last few years, they haven’t abandoned their gasoline-powered models.
Indeed, even if it seemed like Cadillac was poised to become an electric-only brand within the next couple of years, the American luxury automaker is now working hard on new generations of most of its current gasoline-powered models.
Indeed, the brand’s president confirmed earlier today in a post on LinkedIn that a brand new XT6 is coming, despite the first generation of this mid-size SUV having been discontinued at the end of 2025.

At the time, it seemed the plan was for the similarly-sized electric Vistiq to carry the torch in this segment for Cadillac.
This change of plans is no doubt due to the drop in popularity of electric vehicles that was observed in 2025, when the Trump administration removed purchase incentives for EVs and loosened emissions regulations that regulate gas-powered vehicles.
Probably due to its introduction in this unfavourable market for EVs, the Vistiq hasn’t been able to match the sales figures obtained by the XT6, far from it, with the brand-new electric SUV managing to find only 7,879 buyers in 2025 compared to about 20,000 for the aging XT6, which was in its fifth year on the market at the time.
No details about the upcoming XT6 have been revealed at the moment, except that it will come after the next generation of the XT5 has arrived, which should happen next year.

The return of the XT6 is not the only piece of news concerning gasoline-powered Cadillac vehicles, as sources within General Motors have reportedly told GM Authority that the CT5-V Blackwing sports sedan will be back for a second generation.
Unlike the return of the XT6, this has yet to be confirmed by the manufacturer, but the information seems credible.
Indeed, we already knew that the CT5 as a whole would benefit from a complete rework in the next few years, and there were some clues about a possible return of its high-performance variant.

Notably, the Alpha 2-2 platform on which it will be built will also be used by a reborn Chevrolet Camaro, which will get its own performance model. Interestingly, a new Buick sedan is also planned on this architecture, which could suggest a move upmarket for the regular Cadillac CT5.
While we don’t know which powertrain could power the next CT5-V Blackwing, it could adopt the new family of GM small-block V8 engines, most notably the 6,6L variant that will soon replace the current 6,2L.
More importantly for enthusiasts, the manual transmission could remain on the menu, as sources within GM revealed that the related next-gen Camaro will offer one.
Of course, this all remains to be confirmed, so don’t get your hopes up too quickly.
Nonetheless, everything we have heard so far points to the next Cadillac sedan being at least as appealing as the current CT5 and its Blackwing variant.
