BMW i4 Becomes Official Safety Car of MotoE Series

BMW will pace electric motorcycle series

  • Electric pace car takes over from BMW i8

  • Reveal later this month ahead of fall market launch

Electric motorcycle racing has just gotten a new safety car. It’s the BMW i4 M50 safety car and it will be helping keep the field safe, leading the field of the FIM Enel MotorE World Cup starting this November.

BMW M is the Offical Car of MotoGP motorcycle racing, and FIM Enel MotoE is one of the support series for the main championship. Much like FIA Formula E is to F1, but racing at the same tracks on the same weekends.

The BMW i4 M50 Safety Car will be officially revealed at the Motorcycle Grand Prix of Austria later this month. That’s months before the production version of the i4, which isn’t expected to launch until November, BMW said.

“With the BMW i4 M50, we are entering a new era and presenting our first M with a fully-electric drive train,” says Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M. “With the first M BEV, we are setting course for a future, in which the combination of extremely sporty, performance vehicles and electrification is an exciting theme. We are showing that everything people have come to value about M – the typical emotional M driving experience with sportiness, power and dynamics – is also possible in a fully-electric vehicle.”

The safety car i4 will get loads of LED lighting on the roof as well as bright green trim for the grille and other parts of the car, the colours of the MotoE series.
