This will be the first all-electric model to be sold by Acura.
Like the Honda Prologue, the ZDX is likely to be manufactured by General Motors.
This means it could share its powertrains with the Cadillac Lyriq.
Acura is getting ready to unveil the ZDX, its first all-electric model, which will make its debut on August 17 at the Monterey Car Week in California.
The ZDX is the more luxurious counterpart to the Honda Prologue, which means that it is also based on General Motors’ Ultium platform.
Indeed, Honda and Acura have elected to partner with GM in order to have electric models to sell until their own in-house EVs arrive on the market, somewhere in 2026 or 2027.
This means that both models, especially the ZDX, could share their powertrain options with the Cadillac Lyriq SUV.
Since the Acura ZDX will be offered in two trim levels, the base model is likely to be powered by a single rear-mounted motor that delivers 340 horsepower while the sportier Type S version will use two motors to generate 500 horsepower to all four wheels.
Speaking of the Type S, this version of the ZDX is expected to be the fastest and most powerful Acura SUV ever.
In terms of design, the automaker has only published a darkened teaser image so we don’t know the full details, but it at least gives an idea of what to expect from the look of the front end.
From what we can see, The ZDX will feature the brand’s typical triangular front grille, but in this case, it could be replaced by a filled-in plastic panel surrounded by moulding since the reduced cooling needs of the EV could be taken care of by the two lower air intakes at each end of the bumper.
While no pictures of the interior have surfaced, Acura confirmed this upcoming model will feature the latest generation of the Google built-in infotainment system, a first for the brand.
Another first will be the use of a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, which could make its way to other models in the lineup in the coming years.
Despite the automaker not having said anything to this effect, it is believed that the ZDX will be manufactured by General Motors in its Spring Hills, Tennessee assembly plant which currently builds the Cadillac EV.
