ChargePoint’s new 80-amp charger delivers faster charging and enables EV-to-home power transfer.
Smart integration with solar and home batteries improves energy efficiency for homes and businesses.
Launching in Europe by 2025, ChargePoint’s platform supports residential, commercial, and fleet EV charging needs.
ChargePoint is stepping up its EV charging game with a brand-new AC Level 2 charging platform that combines faster charging speeds with advanced energy management features—including vehicle-to-home backup power. The new architecture supports up to 80 amps (19.2 kW), fully allowing a typical EV to charge in about four hours.
One of the more impressive features is bidirectional charging, also known as vehicle-to-everything (V2X). This enables EVs to supply power to the home, buildings, or even the grid. The system integrates seamlessly with solar panels, home batteries, and energy loads for improved efficiency. Smart home integration and dynamic load balancing further functionality, ensuring optimal use during off-peak hours and minimizing the need for expensive electrical upgrades when multiple vehicles are charged simultaneously.
ChargePoint’s new design also introduces the Omni Port, which ensures broad compatibility with North American connector standards. Commercial and residential versions of this new system will be launched first in Europe this summer, followed by a North American rollout by year’s end.
Founded in 2007, ChargePoint has grown to operate one of the largest EV charging networks in both North America and Europe. According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, the company currently holds an estimated 61% share of the U.S. public AC Level 2 charging market.
ChargePoint says the new platform complies with all major regulatory standards and is designed for use across residential, commercial, and fleet environments. “The architecture underpinning them enables highly anticipated technologies which will deliver a significantly better experience for station owners and the EV drivers who charge with them,” said Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint’s Chief Technical Officer, Hardware.
