Everything points to the possibility that Chevrolet is preparing to bring back the Camaro nameplate in an all-electric format, with sources indicating the revived model will take the form of a fastback SUV targeting the same market as the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The vehicle is expected to enter production ahead of a projected Fall 2026 launch.

Originally introduced as a two-door coupe in 1966, the Camaro was Chevrolet’s response to the Ford Mustang – looks like history will repeat itself. As demand for coupes declines and SUV sales increase, General Motors appears set to repurpose the Camaro as part of its electrification strategy.
The 2027 Camaro EV SUV is likely to be based on GM’s modular electric platform, formerly known as Ultium, allowing for multiple battery and motor configurations. Lower-end models could feature a single rear-mounted motor with output ranging from 241 to 365 horsepower, depending on the motor configuration used.
Battery options are expected to include the 85-kWh unit currently found in the lower trims of the Blazer EV and a larger 102-kWh pack available in high-performance or long-range variants. Estimated maximum charging speeds are 150 kW for the smaller pack and 190 kW for the larger unit.

Dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions may provide 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque, mirroring setups in existing GM EVs. A performance-oriented SS variant is expected to deliver 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft, supported by components such as Brembo brakes, adaptive suspension, and retuned steering.
Chevrolet may also bring back the ZL1 designation for a high-performance version with a tri-motor layout, to crush the GT with the Performance upgrade. Should GM want to, it could use the same propulsion system as the Hummer EV, unleashing up to 1,000 horsepower.
Estimated pricing for the 2027 Camaro EV ranges from approximately $36,000 to $65,500 USD ($50,000 to $90,000 CDN), depending on trim and powertrain configuration. Trim levels are expected to include LT, RS, SS, and ZL1, as we’ve come to expect from Chevy.
Despite speculation from Motor Trend’s report, General Motors has not confirmed the return of the Camaro in this form. “We do not comment on speculation. For competitive reasons, we do not disclose our future product plans,” said Chevrolet executive director of communications Chad Lyons.
