EV rebates : Manitoba offers up to $4,000

  • Electrified vehicles purchased after August 1st 2023 are eligible.

  • The MSRP mut be below $70,000.

Manitoba’s provincial budget just made neighboring Ontario happy. The New Democratic Party (NDP) government elected earlier this fall has fulfilled one of its election promises.

It is finally giving motorists interested in electric cars a rebate of up to $4,000 on the purchase of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. The measure applies only to vehicles with a base price under $70,000, and even offers EV buyers who decided to go electric earlier to receive the rebate retroactively, until August 1, 2023.

Manitoba’s provincial rebate program also includes a chapter for electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids of up to $2,500. These new rebates apply only to vehicles up to four years old.

Remember that the federal rebate is still in effect, which means that a Manitoba motorist can receive up to $9,000, taking into account the potential $5,000 from Ottawa. However, it will be very interesting to see what Justin Trudeau’s government’s position will be, with the federal budget to be unveiled on April 16. Will Ottawa follow Quebec’s lead and gradually reduce its financial incentives for the acquisition of an EV?

Manitoba motorists will benefit from the provincial rebate when their new electrified vehicle is registered with Manitoba Public Insurance.
