Ford reveals BlueCruise 1.4 : more capable than before

  • BlueCruise 1.4 will be available on certain 2025 Ford and Lincoln models.

  • The latest iteration of the system is more fluid.

Fully autonomous driving does not yet officially exist, but the industry continues to take an interest in this technology, investing in the development of the technology. On the other hand, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are becoming more sophisticated, particularly for the longer and monotonous distances of North American freeways.

The BlueCruise system falls into this category, and at the end of September 2024, Ford has just unveiled version 1.4 of its freeway driving assistance system.

The system is said to offer smoother driving between lanes and more distance possible without having to intervene by regaining control of the vehicle with the steering wheel.

In bends, for example, the system detects the curve and automatically and smoothly adjusts the vehicle’s speed, allowing the driver to continue the “hands-free” experience.

BlueCruise engineers have also sought to provide greater stability in the lane, thanks to a new motion controller. As a result, the vehicle should weave less between the lines on the freeway.

What’s more, the hands-free mode is more flexible to weather conditions, extending the “hands-free” driving experience once more.

Functions already integrated into the BlueCruise system, such as Lane Change and Lane Repositioning, remain in place. Users can change lanes at the touch of a lever on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. The Lane Repositioning application repositions the vehicle when the situation calls for it, when a neighboring vehicle gets a little too close to the lane in which the BlueCruise-equipped vehicle is travelling.

The new BlueCruise version 1.4 will be installed in selected Ford and Lincoln vehicles for the 2025 model year.
