The Secret Service is said to have approached GM and its “Defense L.L.C.” division to develop a new generation of light military and tactical vehicles.
Future Secret Service models could be based on GM Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV).

A brand-new platform could be developed specifically to meet the Secret Service’s requirements on the field.
The US Secret Service is working closely with General Motors Defense to design new vehicles with improved off-road capabilities and a more discreet presence than the current fleet. While many details remain classified, there is strong speculation that the upcoming models could share DNA with military-grade vehicles already built by GM Defense.

At present, the agency relies heavily on Chevrolet Suburbans that are custom-armoured and painted black, closely resembling those available to the public. While these large SUVs work well in the United States, they tend to stand out in other regions where blending in is crucial.
According to Sean Curran, Director of the Secret Service, the agency continuously works with GM Defense on vehicles “based on the terrain, based on the threat environment, and just our needs.” He emphasized that future vehicles would be better suited for operations in regions such as Africa, where the current Suburbans are considered too eye-catching.

Speaking with Car and Driver, Curran declined to provide specific details, but noted that the new vehicles could resemble the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), which is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, or potentially the Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) derived from the Silverado HD, already built for the Canadian Armed Forces.

One option unlikely to move forward is the GMC Hummer EV-based eMCV, which GM Defense unveiled two years ago. While electric vehicles may suit some specialized missions, their limited range and reliance on charging infrastructure make them impractical for remote deployments.
There’s also the possibility that the Secret Service and GM Defense are developing an entirely new platform from the ground up. However, such a project would come at a high cost and require far more time to implement than adapting an existing GM Defense architecture.
