Hyundai IONIQ 5 Reaches Top Three Best-Selling Hyundai Models in Canada as October Sales Soar

IONIQ 5 Overtakes ELANTRA in October, Reflecting Hyundai Canada’s EV Momentum

  • Hyundai Canada’s IONIQ 5 achieved a 242.7% increase in October sales year-over-year.

  • The IONIQ 5 has become Hyundai’s third top-selling model, overtaking the ELANTRA.

  • Hyundai’s electrified fleet grew, making up a third of total sales, underscoring EV market focus.

Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 electric vehicle (EV) has climbed to become the third best-selling model in its lineup in Canada for October. The IONIQ 5, with 1,933 units sold, achieved a 242.7% year-over-year increase from October 2023, surpassing even the always-hot-selling Elantra to secure the third spot among Hyundai’s top sellers. This growth in IONIQ 5 sales comes amid strong overall performance for Hyundai Canada, which reported a total of 11,694 units sold in October, up 22% from the previous year.

The Tucson and Kona models continue to dominate Hyundai’s sales, with 2,363 and 2,294 units sold, respectively. However, the surge in IONIQ 5 sales stresses Canada’s increasing consumer demand for EVs. “We’re thrilled to see Canadians’ continued desire for EVs reflected in the IONIQ 5’s incredible sales month after month,” stated Steve Flamand, executive director of national sales and digital strategy at Hyundai Auto Canada. “For it to unseat one of our best-selling, legacy models within our top three models is a true testament to Hyundai’s dedication to the EV revolution.”

Hyundai’s electrified fleet, encompassing electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models, also reported strong sales for October, with 4,346 units sold, a 36.8 % increase year-over-year. Within the electrified lineup, models such as the Tucson Hybrid and Kona EV also posted notable gains, with sales rising 18 % and 50.1%, respectively.

Hyundai Canada’s October results indicate that electrified models are a substantial part of the company’s total sales, consistently representing around a third of its sales volume—a portion that should continue to grow in the near future.
