Mazda’s Upcoming EZ-60 Shows Itself in Latest Video

  • This model probably won’t come to North America.

  • The Mazda EZ-60 will be a close cousin to the Changan Deepal S7.

It’s no secret that Mazda is speeding up the electrification of its line-up, all over the world. The first attempts were not very conclusive, but this time, the Hiroshima firm seems to be on the right track.

Mazda has caused quite a stir in recent hours with the publication of a very short video on YouTube. The short film shows the outline of the design of the future EZ-60 model for the 2025 model year. It’s safe to assume that it will join the ranks in China alongside the Mazda EZ-6 electric sedan, a reincarnation of the brand’s mid-size sedan, but with architecture borrowed from Changan, Mazda’s partner in China.

According to the edges of the electric crossover shown in the video, the new model will be very familiar to brand regulars, with that space usually reserved for the grille linking with the slimmed-down headlights on either side. In profile, the Mazda EZ-60 is reminiscent of the Arata concept unveiled in China last year.

Unsurprisingly, this first all-electric SUV for the Chinese market will have the Tesla Model Y as its main target. It is to be hoped, however, that the vehicle will be able to compete with the American brand’s flagship with specifications to match.

But, since the EZ-60 will share its mechanical components with a certain Changan Deepal S7, we can expect 254 horsepower from the 68.8-kWh battery, as well as an estimated range of 480 km. The 80-kWh battery version is said to have a range of 550 km. It’s even likely that a version equipped with a range-extender (a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine) will be added to the range. But until the official unveiling, we’ll have to continue speculating.

Unfortunately, this new model is likely to be confined to the Chinese market, if only because it will be assembled there, a complex geopolitical situation with the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
