How fast is it? Fast enough to crush the one lap record Virginia International Raceway’s Grand Course West layout. Are you thinking to yourself that you just recently read a story about the production car one lap record being set by a Ford GT? You did, actually.
The Ford supercar set a 2:38.62 around VIR’s Grand Course layout. This number was good enough to beat the previous 2:40.02 production-car record set by a Dodge Viper ACR. Roughly a week later, the Ford’s record got beat too.
Barely a day ago, a 2019 Corvette ZR1 equipped with the optional 8-speed automatic transmission and ZTK performance package lapped around VIR in 2:37.25. The time may be only 1.01 seconds quicker than the GT but, in this game, it might as well be three weeks.
Let’s remind ourselves that the Vette features a 755-horsepower boosted V8 while the Ford “makes due” with a 650-horsepower boosted V6. We love the car business and speed. Don’t you?
