Ram Reveals Completely Refreshed 2022 ProMaster Van

Ram ProMaster gets new tech, new interior

Ram has just given the ProMaster van a significant update. An all-new interior, new tech, and even a new engine and gearbox, but you’d never know it was different by looking at the van. Because while it’s new where it counts, the 2022 Ram ProMaster is identical on the outside. which is probably exactly what van buyers want. Oh, there’s an EV coming, too.

18 configurations of ProMaster are still on offer, including two roof heights, three wheelbases, and four different overall lengths. You can even get a new Crew Van model that adds a second row of seats for three more passengers. The vans will tow up to 3,134kg, haul 2,123kg of payload, and can pack in as much as 13,111 L of stuff.

Ram calls the 3.6L V6 the next generation of the engine, though output is the same at 280 hp and 260 lb-ft. New is a nine-speed automatic, replacing the old six-speed and likely adding to drivability and fuel efficiency. The ProMaster is still a front-drive van, which is unusual in the segment but shows the van’s European roots.

The big changes are inside, including an all-new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Alexa and twin Bluetooth capability. It has five user profiles, useful for a shared van, and includes nearly 50 telematics service functions including over the air updates.

Helping commercial driver comfort, push-button start is now standard and a leather-wrapped wheel is available. The steering wheel gets more control capability and enhanced hand grips, and designers have re-done the air vents and HVAC controls for ease of use.

High-tech add-ons include an available digital rearview video mirror. A 360-degree camera is offered, and Active Driving Assist adds lane centering and adaptive cruise control. Full-speed collision warning, crosswind assist, post-collision braking, and traffic sign recognition are all standard, with intelligent speed assist, lane keep assist, and parking sensors all optional.

Last but certainly not least, Ram has confirmed that a battery-electric version of the ProMaster van will be introduced in 2023. Though no more details were available.

The updated 2022 Ram ProMaster is expected to go on sale this fall.
