Buyers will receive a NACS to CCS1 adaptor with their 2025 R1S and R1T.
Owners of older Rivian models should receive this adaptor in the mail.
Starting next year, Rivian vehicles will be fitted with an NACS port as standard.
Thanks to deals signed with Tesla, most automakers will get access to the Supercharger network via the addition of an NACS charging port, including Rivian.
While the company’s electric pickups and SUVs are set to receive the Tesla connector from the factory starting in 2025, Rivian is making sure its buyers can have a head start by including an NACS to CCS1 adaptor with every new vehicle.
Rivian is not the first automaker to offer such a piece of equipment, with Ford and GM having done so for a few months already, but it seems the small EV maker is the first to include it as standard, without the buyers having to order it separately.

The company has also said it will send an adaptor to all of its existing customers via the mail, but it seems that process has been going slower than expected, with many drivers still waiting.
With the adaptor, R1S and R1T owners will be able to use both CCS1 and NACS compatible stations, which opens up over 16,000 Superchargers in the United States alone, making it easier and more convenient to charge while out on the road.
As mentioned previously, the majority of the North American automotive industry will be moving over to the Tesla charging standard starting next year, which will mean all new EVs from Rivian, among many other companies, will replace their CCS1 port with the NACS one.

This process has already started, with the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 being the first non-Tesla vehicle to be widely available in North America with a Tesla-style connector from the factory.
Of course, this will make the NACS to CCS1 adaptor redundant for new models, which will need a CCS1 to NACS adaptor instead in order to use the thousands of existing non-Tesla charging stations across the continent.
The main reasons for this switch in charging standard are the more manageable size and weight of the Tesla connector, along with the desire to not be left out as once Ford signed a deal with Tesla, the floodgates opened and almost every other automaker active in the United States and Canada announced a similar deal over the next month or two.
