UPDATE: It’s not coming to North America according to Audi of America…
Avant, as we all know, is Audi-speak for wagon!
The RS 6’s success will repeat in the RS 4.
Back in the mid-2000s, Audi deemed North America worthy of an RS 4. Though it wasn’t the wagon, enthusiasts and fans alike collectively fell head over heels for the rare 420-hp V8-powered manual sedan. In the blink of an eye, it was gone but Audi-phyles have never forgotten the car and have clamoured for its return. And Audi has listened.
Or at least, someone at Audi let slip that it was coming, according to Motor Trend. While Audi’s position is still officially that there are no plans to sell it on our shores, the opportunity that presents itself to the German luxury car brand, to grow its image, is too good to pass up.
The RS 6 is one of our favorite cars, as it is for nearly all automotive media, and the RS 4 Avant would effortlessly find a spot on all of our lists as well. The good news is that only the Avant, aka station wagon, is available meaning that its status as a legend among automotive legends is assured.
The current RS 4, which, should it come for the 2024 and 2025 model years, will be powered by a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 engine good for an impressive 331 kW (450 PS) and maximum torque of 600 Nm. The family hauler sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds thanks to the standard quattro permanent all-wheel drive with sport differential.
Finally, should it be sold here, it won’t be cheap. We think at least $90,000 CDN to start.
