Special paint, wheels, and badges
Just 30 copies, with Brembos and new shocks
Hakone Toyota—what a wonderful phrase. Hakone Toyota, though, is a passing craze. It means a special edition, 860 copies for NA. It’s an automatic free philosophy, the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition.
The name comes from Japan’s Hakone Turnpike. The highway is a 16 km toll road about 100 km from Tokyo that is famous for being a stunning drive and way to see Mount Fuji. It’s also been made famous in Initial D and is a featured track in Assetto Corsa. It’s also the likely inspiration for the Fujimi Kaido circuit in the Forza Motorsports series. It’s a serious highway, is what we’re saying.
Toyota is starting with the GR86 Premium, including the 228 hp, 184 lb-ft 2.4L boxer-four engine. Then it is adding 18-inch bronze wheels, and a duck-tail spoiler painted in the same Ridge Green paint as the rest of the body. The interior is trimmed in black and tan, with a bronze Hakone shift knob.
Brembo brakes are standard on the GR86 Hakone special edition. The car will also have Sachs dampers.
Toyota is only building 860 for North America in 2025. Thirty of those are coming to Canada, and they will all be equipped with a manual transmission.
Like the rest of the GR86 line, the shocks have been re-tuned for 2025 for better handling. Toyota has also re-mapped the throttle pedal to make heel-toe blipping easier than before. The power steering system is also tweaked for a more responsive feel and a better sense of road contact.
The cars arrive this fall. Expect pricing later in the year.
