Stuttgart-based Porsche unveils a thrilling update for racing enthusiasts: the Manthey Kit for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. This track-optimized upgrade, which boosts the aerodynamics and chassis of the 500 horsepower GT4 RS, helped the 911 younger sibling complete a Nordschleife lap time of 7:03.121 minutes at the Nürburgring – a full 6.179 seconds swifter than a standard 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
The Manthey Kit, developed in collaboration between Porsche Motorsport and the Nordschleife specialists at Manthey, is specifically tailored for track days. With modifications extending to the braking system – including optional track-suited pads – the kit enhances the GT4 RS’s performance and adds a palpable edge to its capabilities.
At the heart of the Manthey Kit are the aerodynamic enhancements, almost doubling the downforce at 200 km/h. Through a series of modifications, including flaps, new air curtains, a wider rear wing, and aerodiscs on the rear wheels, the kit markedly improves the vehicle’s downforce, amplifying its performance. Additionally, an optional decorative film allows for further customization of the aerodiscs.
Also notable is the inclusion of a special coilover suspension, designed in partnership with Manthey, which can be easily adjusted for track use. This, along with increased spring rates on the front suspension by 20%, significantly enhances the GT4 RS’s handling characteristics. The kit also standardizes steel brake lines for optimal braking power delivery, with optional racing brake pads available for consistent friction behavior over a broad temperature range.
Optional extras for the kit include a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) rear spoiler attachment, which boosts rear axle downforce by around 4%. Other visual enhancements, such as illuminated door sill guards featuring the Manthey logo and optional louvres with a carbon-weave finish, add to the vehicle’s aggressive aesthetics.
When equipped with the Manthey Kit, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS demonstrates its full potential on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister behind the wheel, the GT4 RS outpaced its series-production counterpart by over six seconds. Both vehicles were fitted with optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and the lap time was certified by a notary.
The Manthey Kit, which does not affect the manufacturer’s warranty, will be available worldwide through Porsche Centres. It is set to launch in Europe and the US in December 2023, with other markets to follow. This kit underscores Porsche’s commitment to performance and innovation, offering drivers an elevated track experience.
