Alpina are Gods of BMW tuning. The new Alpina B3 Saloon is beautiful. The Touring is sinfully amazing.
A new generation of the BMW 3 Series also means an entirely new Alpina B3. Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, the all-new Alpina B3 Saloon and B3 Touring are, as usual, incredibly desirable. The new B3s also happen to be the most powerful of all time.
How powerful? The G20 3 Series’ twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-6-cylinder engine has been tweaked to produce no less than 462-horsepower and a maximum torque figure of 516 lb.-ft. as of 3,000 rpm. With the 8-Speed Sport-automatic transmission, the B3 is a solid and serious rocket.
How fast? The Saloon can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.8 seconds. 200 km/h shows up less than 10 seconds later at 13.4 seconds. The Touring, the sensual long roof, requires 0.1 seconds more to reach 100 and 0.5 seconds to reach 200. Top speeds are of 303 and 300 km/h, respectively.
Putting the power to good use is an ALPINA sports suspension, a limited-slip differential and a newly developed wheel and tire combination. Aesthetically, both Alpina B3s gain the usual aerodynamic accents with optimized air intakes for improved cooling and a front apron with a an ALPINA logo. And then, there are the wheels.
Standard wheels are new ALPINA DYNAMIC 19-inchers with a 5×4 multi-spoke design. Optionally, buyers can select 20-spoke ALPINA CLASSIC 20-inch forged wheels which once again feature the trademark lockable wheel hub cover.
We cannot aptly explain to you how badly we need an Alpina B3 Touring…
