It sounds absolutely insane and looks just as bonkers. It’s the new Mustang Shelby GT500 unveiled yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was announced at last year’s North American International Auto Show, and now it’s finally arrived. It’s loud, fast, and can’t be mistaken for anything else but a Mustang Shelby.

Worlds apart from the 2020 Toyota Supra that was being unveiled on the other side of the Cobo Center, the Shelby GT500 puts the emphasis on pure, raw power. It’s 5.2-liter supercharged V8 probably weights as much as a new Supra. Ok, maybe not, but it certainly will have twice the power. Ford is announcing over 700 horsepower for the new Mustang Shelby.

As you can imagine, it sounds ridiculous.

You’ll also get Brembo brakes and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. There’s no manual, but that’s because Ford says the Shelby GT500 is too powerful for a six-speed manual gearbox to handle.

Check out our full coverage of the new 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Here, we look at images of the beast.
