The powertrain will include a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos was officially introduced last October. Its arrival is bitter-sweet as the subcompact SUV essentially replaces the Golf in Volkswagen’s North American lineup. Although this may be the case, the new Taos, priced at $26,695, is nearly $4,000 more than the 2021 base compact hatchback.
North America’s insatiable thirst for SUVs should minimally equate to some sales success. At the very least, the Taos should quickly match and surpass Golf sales within a few model years. The new 2022 Volkswagen Taos is designed to pique interest and equipped to hold it. In typical current VW fashion, the Taos, like the updated 2021 Atlas and the new Atlas Cross Sport, is distinctly styled with now signature LED lighting and clean lines.
The cabin is, according to Volkswagen, quite spacious for a vehicle its size. Truck space is said to be 790 litres behind the second row while total passenger volume is rated at 2,817 litres, or only 45 fewer than the Tiguan. Standard features include VW’s Digital Cockpit as is App-Connect smartphone integration with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and MirrorLink.
Powering the Taos will be a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The base Trendline will be FWD and feature an 8-speed automatic transmission. With the available 4Motion AWD system, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels.
